Man this backup software that came with the external hard drive I got a while ago onto which I backed up a lot of stuff has a really strange interface.
For one thing, it let me somehow save the index file for all the backed up files on my local hard drive, not together with the big blobs of data put on the external drive. Fortunately it seems possible to recreate this file.
However, the program is very poor at letting you know it is actually succesfully starting to undergo this process. You have to cancel out of a few dialog boxes and go to the "activity monitor" to see that there is an "execution" running (apparently the program's own special little notion of thread) and it is busily cataloging files.
