Bought a Vaio. Con: No middle button, no mouse buttons above trackpad. Pro: More pixels, keyboard feels very nice, gig of RAM, 100 gig drive.

When I bought my first laptop last year I was seriously weighing getting a vaio vs. switching to Mac. (Really, it's all about having the pretty toys.)

Did you get the 3-lb one that can (do the laptop-equivalent of) fit in an altoids tin?

I think

lambdacalculus has the 3 lb Vaio -- my only beef with it is the smaller shift key on the right side of the keyboard -- I always miss it and hit the button to the right of it (not a shift).

I agree with Moira about pretty toys -- when I bought my machine it was a choice between the Ti Powerbook or the (IMO) ugly but durable ThinkPad. The thinness and sleek look of the Powerbook won out.

Glad the computer stuff is all worked out!

Welcome to the cult! I love my Vaio to death but the comment about the right shift key is dead on. I have resorted to simply ignoring it while chatting and saying that /1 = ! Totally awesome /1
