Wow, TiddlyWiki is kind of totally insane. I had noticed it on del.icio.us's popular-links page for some time, but never looked at it until just now.

Huh- interesting! It's similar how people will link back to old posts in forums, but a lot easier to navigate. (In addition to the natural advantages of wikis in general) I would like to blog like this!

Could you explain what you mean by that similarity?

Well, I just mean when referring to stuff, people will sometimes link to older posts that contain the information so that they don't have to explain it to people who haven't read the entire history. (Sometimes I wish webcomics did this! Wouldn't that be cool- tiddlying the references to events or previous comics!) It's also similar to lj name linking. I now have this bizarre desire to combine movable type and tiddlywiki to somehow create this easily editable, totally interwoven photoblog! XD

In a way, it's similar to hyperlinking in general, then. The way I see it, wikis are distinctive in that the typist/poster doesn't have to do any look-up work to find the thing they wish to hyperlink to.

Insane in that NoSpaces kind of way, yes. OK, so it's actually cool, but having spaces be illegal gets OnMyNerve really quick. I love that wikipedia got a brain about itself to fix that.

I agree with you that NoSpaces looks ugly, but Tiddly has both mechanisms for creating links: (1) if a word is a WikiWord (i.e. contains at least two capital letters) then it will be made a link, and (2) if you enclose a string in [[double brackets]] it gets made a link. So you could make your entire wiki with [[enclosed phrases]] instead of NoSpacePhrases, but this guy seems to like the latter.

Charlie Stross takes "contains at least two capital letters" as license to do things like "SIngularity". Or maybe this is a general Wiki joke, I don't know.

That is the very Wiki through which I found out about TiddlyWiki, and I marvelled, too, at the sheer ugliness of "WikiWords" such as SIngularity, LOcation, ORigins, TRanscend.
