She gave a really nice talk today over on Pitt campus about Whorfian effects of gender systems, one of whose papers I had already begun reading some weeks ago because of an old language log post that linked to it. In post-talk discussion, there were some quibbles with her experiments, but as a speaker she was utterly fantastic. Every doubting question that was asked during the talk at least was met with a calm but instantaneous barrage of rebutting facts, experiments, citations, etc. It's just great to watch unabashedly awesome and well-prepared academics do their thing.
