Man, four and a half pages of calculus later, I am totally prepared if someone should ambush me on fifth ave and demand that I figure out what the maximum likelihood parameters are assuming a sampled random variable is the sum of two independent and exponentially distributed variables.

But, you know, I think it doesn't take a course in probability theory to realize that that's not too likely.
