It looks like everone's favorite famous Klingon linguist, Sapir Worf, may have been right after all. Funny, because I always thought numeric subitization was one of the big things (along with color discrimination) that had been demonstrated to not significantly be affected by vocabulary. Hooray for experimental (non)repeatability.
