Had a full day of intellectual merriment. Read a lot of George Steiner, of whom I am quickly becoming a big fan. Went to a POP seminar by someone from Rutgers talking about free theorems that work even in the presence of seq, a primitive that one adds to Haskell to get back strict evaluation of some arguments to functions. Chatted with Brigitte, who is in town, and Aleks Nanevski about an "obviously-true" (well, "true in a way that the theorem prover is clever enough to divine automatically") modality they were trying to work out. I feel so good after such a day of pretty much continuous brain-stretching.
