Have read about 250 pages of Anthony Zee's "Fearful Symmetry". Pretty good stuff. Highly recommended to people fed up, like I found myself, with most other popular treatments of 20th-century physics. It descends into a zoo of symmetry groups after a while, but it covers a lot of stuff about the history of electroweak unification and the strong force that's new to me.
