It is a weird feeling, even in these small story-making exercises I've been forcing myself to slog through lately, to find that I feel much more that I'm discovering things about characters and situations and fictional worlds than creating or deciding.

I think that "discovering" is very much a large part of the creative process. Somehow this reminded me of this thing I heard about a movie sound designer once; someone asked how he knew when he had finished a section, and he said it was when he couldn't hear the "decisions" in it anymore... as if it had created itself. That has kind of stuck with me in my designing/creating endeavors.
