Somewhat farther into "Stranger Things" now. I think I kind of like it as a lighter, fluffier entry in the X-Files-y/Fringe-y niche of evil guvmint labs cookin' up creepy-crawly alternate universes and whatnot. Some of the dialogue is pretty cringe-worthy, but the overall plotting is goes-down-easy fun.

oh yeah it is for sure quite an assemblage of stereotypes. Funny how thin a boundary it is (cough cough star wars) between "holy ancient deeply human narrative archetypes that are immensely satisfying to experience" and "ugggh reeallly? again?" except I expect you've wrestled with this plenty without me needing to remind you of it. One could say that the word "stereotype" connotes a more culture-specific "we've made these assumptions about these kind of people and are now thoughtlessly deploying said assumptions" and the applause-lightsy "archetype" is more about *universal* character-functionality or plotting-functionality... but I am perennially suspicious of claims to universality of exactly that form.
