Off to chicago today, to visit family. "How nice", I think, "that Chicago is only a 2-hour-ish flight away, instead of the long haul to the west coast or europe or something". Except then I remember it's 1.5 hours train to JFK, plus 1.5 hours in baggage drop and security lines, plus then 2 hours flight surrounded on three sides by adjacent children kicking my seat and/or screaming and/or throwing heavy water bottles at the floor and at me, plus bonus 0.5 hour taxiing around ORD waiting for our gate to be empty, plus 0.5 hour waiting for luggage, plus 1 hour train to hotel, plus 1 hour train to Evanston. oof.

Speaking now as an LA resident, though, it's nice that there is a train to Evanston. The train is my favorite thing about flying to Chicago.

I concede that you are 100% correct.

Actually even compared to JFK, the train connection to the airport in chicago is better --- no hassle with the airport train not really being part of the general city subway system. So I should be thankful for that.

This has always been DEEPLY MYSTERIOUS to me about NYC.

Ha ha, I wonder if we crossed in O'Hare today... I was there between about 9 and 11:30 a.m. Central time.

I've had that same time-adding-up frustration with just about every plane trip coming out of Pittsburgh. Usually my wrath is focused on the 28X (half an hour for me to get to it, plus an hour's ride), but you make a good point about all the in-airport stuff as well.
