I love how immediately accessible Benjamin Franklin's autobiography appears to be. Check it out:
"...Indeed, I scarce ever heard or saw the introductory words, “Without vanity I may say,” &c., but some vain thing immediately followed..."
Dude is basically anticipating "look, you know I'm not racist, but...".
