"Hot Fuzz" appeared on K's netflix queue, so we watched it. My central expectation of "police movie" + "comedy" is pretty much "comedy derives from incompetence", so I was surprised when in fact most of it derived instead from the hypercompetence of Simon Pegg's character. Or, well, to be more accurate, the contrast between that and the easy-going no-fucks-were-givenness of the local police force in the small town he's forcibly relocated to. Anyway, lots of good jokes, appropriately banal and evil villains, and things exploding. Eminently quotable. (Yarp/10)
