A bunch of links on journalism/communication/technology: Here's an interesting rebuttal by Clay Shirky to the essay "Confidence Game" by Dean Starkman, which in turn mentioned the term "Gutenberg Parenthesis", used by Dutch Shakespeare scholar Thomas Pettitt to suggest that the period of time between the invention of the printing press and the promulgation of the internet is in a sense merely a temporary departure from a cultural moment, that the internet is returning us to a "second orality". I found a lecture by Pettitt on the topic.
