Noam seems to have figured out how to line up the tutte decomposition of locally orientable maps with building up linear lambda terms, but there's still some "leftover" linear terms that have no maps to go with them. What's more general than a map on an arbitrary 2-d manifold that's not even orientable? Are crazy spin structures going to show up or something? I have no idea.
