Listened to Parker's recordings of "Confirmation", "Just Friends", "Blues for Alice", "K. C. Blues", "Kim" at Hillman's little listening room thingy. I definitely need to hear the "Blues for Alice" solos a few more times. Such great stuff.

Trying to get work done makes my brain switch off.

Guh. Buh. Gibber. Totally falling in love with Thelonious Monk's songwriting. Before I checked out a copule CDs from the library, all I had heard was "Blue Monk". Guh. "Ruby, My Dear", "I Mean You", "In Walked Bud", "Epistrophy", "Straight, No Chaser", "Well You Needn't"... I'm especially astounded by how fun, how joyful, how smirking, how joking he makes blues sound, not to mention the rhythms, the whole-tone scale virtuosity...
