caught a lite sneeze, dreamed a little dream

Woke up at 6:50 am hacking on some wicked post-nasal drip. I think I have a cold. First one this winter, though, I think, so I'm not doing too bad.

Went to Fuel and Fuddle with lincoln3 and denorae last night, didn't eat much. So in fact I ate at all three of the Oakland Ave. restaurants in one day -- I think they are owned by the same people. They Ownz0r me and my wallet, anyway.

I attempted, at adam's suggestion, to ameliorate my research guilt by resolving to read at least a paper a day, in addition to the existing output lower limit of one page a day of writing (prose, not technical) that I have been experimenting with for the last week or so. I am, of course, in no way guaranteed to learn anything in particular by making such a mechanical requirement of myself, but I think I'll be no worse off maintaining a constant in- and out-flow of stuff.

Databases today was spontaneously pretty cool. We went over an data structure for fast update and query of n-dimensional data points inspired by B-trees, called R-trees.

In other news, my car is still there.

Read [Pfenning, Momigliano 2002]. Should definitely read a few of the papers cited by it soon.

Had a bitterness-inspired idea for a short story during winter break, and I actually bothered writing it up just now. I guess 600 words is pretty freaking short for a short story, but eh. It means I'm still keeping up with the page-a-day output regimen, though, so... I declare victory.
