Watched "Howl's Moving Castle". I'd seen it before once (but a long time ago) and K hadn't. I liked comparing it to Ponyo --- I notice there's a definite theme of representing a character's emotional state or growth or something through them subtly and sometimes partially shapeshifting between forms. Also Calcifer's eyes are drawn similar to Ponyo's, and neither are quite standard-anime-eyes. Howl's does have a villain that mooorrreee or less stays a villain throughout the film (Suliman --- except she still at the very end is like "war huh what is it good for"?) but it also has an apparent-villain-who-kinda-turns-out-to-be-mostly-harmless in the Witch of the Waste, which feels to me like a parallel to Ponyo's Fujimoto.
