Read a bit more about profunctors, since fancybred mentioned them on my last post. This MathOverflow post really nails the question that was on my mind as a result, of what the coendy/profunctory notion of trace has to do with the linear-algebra notion of trace, but sadly there wasn't a tremendously satisfying answer. On the other hand, it gave me a lot to think about about intuitions for (co)ends, or, more to the point, why I should even care about them. I never did manage to figure that out until now.
In other news, I went to La Taza De Oro, a latin american diner in Chelsea, not to be confused with Tazza d'oro, a coffeeshop in pittsburgh. The former is pretty solid. You order meat, beans, rice, and plantains, and they give you a big chunk of meat and a pile of beans and a pile of rice and some plantains. Simple and tasty, and huge portions. K helped me out by splitting the huge portions into two merely large portions. |
