and dammit there is a really cool word for the type of parasite that takes up residence in an animal and changes its behavior so that it can use said animal for transportation purposes...

but I always read it wrong, as "stepsisterian," when it's really strepsidarian or something, so now I can never remember what the real word is.

It's driving me nuts. :( I can't google a word that I can't quite remember...

I think you are thinking of an order of insects called Strepsipteran. They are parasitic specifically with other insects and are pretty neat, but I am not sure that their name is an actual term for their behaviour. If it is, that is a pretty cool word.

Yeah, because of their weird life cycle, I thought the word was a term applying to a broader class of thing, but apparently not.
