dachte told me about LMMS, which despite some UI wackiness, is an eminently usable FruityLoops clone, which works on at least Windows and Linux and I hear maybe OSX too. Here is a song I quickly threw together. Its beat is me drumming on my metal laundry bin with reverb like whoa.
