Got my Black Friday letter back. I am pleased that it's basically what I expected, and maybe even a bit more positive-sounding than I expected it to sound. I guess people weren't kidding when they told me that proposing makes the department happy. In condensed form, the letter was: "You proposed. Great! Now go do your thesis, and finish writing those old papers you've been writing for twenty million god-damn years."
